Wednesday got off to a foggy start so we didn't rush into the great outdoors. In fact we'd had lunch before we'd decided on a plan for the rest of the day. The sun was breaking through so we decided to head north, east and then south along the coast to Blue Hill Mountain. The coastline here is made up of continual inlets and small peninsulas so any driving tends to involve a lot of upping and downing to get relatively short distances as the bald eagle flies. Blue Hill Mountain isn't really a mountain as it is only 934 feet high so we decided to take the longer route from the small town of Blue Hill rather than start at one of the mountain trail heads.
The information we had said there was a trail heading off from the Post Office so we took the opportunity to buy stamps. Well the lady at the counter couldn't have been more helpful. She dug out some sets of pictorial stamps, fixed us up with stamps for postcards and said we could park outside despite the signs suggesting otherwise. She was very jolly all round and was impressed that we were linking the paths to make what she thought to be an arduous hike - we estimated 2-3 hours max yet she accused us of serious over-achieving!
We set off in warm sunshine, it was very humid so we were glad to be in shorts. We walked gradually up through the woods to the start of the main ascent path and decided to go up the steep side so traversed right and then up steeply over smooth rocky outcrops. As we came to gaps in the trees we were high enough to see the coastline which was still shrouded in rolls of fog in places. We perched on a plank at the top and whilst we were in full sun the views were generally hazy so not a good day for photography. However as we headed down Dave did catch a squirrel, seemingly oblivious to us, snacking on a branch in the sun so a good photo opportunity after all. Our descent through trees back to Blue Hill was brisk with Jill setting the pace again! We had a quick look around Blue Hill but other than a vintage Plymouth nothing worthy of note.
Back at base we cooked tea and noticed it was getting dark soon after 7pm. A little later there was excitement all round. The lounge has large windows offering great views of a serious thunderstorm that rumbled on all evening (and long into the night) and thanks to Sarah alerting her to the fact that there were Season 4 episodes to be found on YouTube Jill watched two episodes of Bake Off!

Elaine Thanks for the insight into what it feels like to be there and the people you met along the way.
Jill Elaine thanks for your comments - it is nice to know someone out there is reading, and appreciating our efforts!
