Another early start - these Island visits are tough 12-hour days!
Unable to book for the Island in Tom Hanks Castaway (boat undergoing a re-fit) - and we really wanted to find Winston - we opted for a long day on South Sea Island. We had a good 1/2hour journey on the Catamaran and disembarked via transfer boat to a stirring Fijian welcome. And then we had the whole day to enjoy lazing around, swimming and snorkelling.
We could have sailed, paddle-boarded, kayaked or taken the locals on in their Fijian war dance - but decided to pass.
Dave opted to do a scuba dive and had a good time, Shirl motored to the outer reef and had 30mins or so exploring the coral towers. The coral thus far isn't as good as on the Great Barrier Reef, nor the cay off of Tanzania that we explored a few years ago. But nonetheless it was a spectacle, the fish were beautiful and spice was added by the cry of 'Shark!' !
I didn't see it Dave did, the estimates of its / their sizes varies - well these are fishy stories after all!
The weather held for us though we could hear the rumble of thunder and see the rain falling on the mainland - which frankly could have been a million miles away.
'Footnote from Shirl': A relaxing leg and foot massage whilst laying in the gentle tropical breeze and listening to the sea on the shore? Oh yes, more please!
