The Bus journey to Magnetic Island was a hard one, since I didn't get back to my dorm room until 7.30am after the crazy night in Airlie and the bus left at 8.30!
Now I have to mention our driver laurence who was the funniest driver we have had. He carried around a Steve Irwin doll, after the untimely death of the Crocodile Hunter that left us all sad. But he was really attached to the Doll, saying that the legend lives on and Stevey would never die! (suppose you had to be there really).
Ok so the road to Magnetic Island was a short one, and we watched the Live 8 DVD - which was brilliant, since Timmy and I had the priveledge to go!
We met a new girl Hayley and a Brother and Sister consortium who were pretty cool. Can you imagine Muppet and I travelling together? Its too hideous to imagine!
So the ferry over to Magnetic Island was a time for sleeping, however again we did see a whale breaching between dreams. I am sure it wasnt a dream anyhow.
We stayed in the nicest hostel I have ever been in at this place, called Bunk (see the pictures of it!) Its right next to the ocean and has partial reef exposure, a pool and a sundeck right next to the Beach. Reminded me of Whale Island in Vietnam, only more populated with travellers. I told myself, tonight will be an early one, and as we were walked to our condos....who shouts Hey Dave...Amy, Jess, Croks and a whole host of others we did the Whitsundays with. "Stick to your guns Dave", "Be a man", early night! Early night! and you will all be very proud of me. After a BBQ with the gang I crashed out after a walk on the beach looking at the stars.
It was great to see Amy and Jess again, they along with Brian and Neve, Sam and Hannah, they made the Whitsundays so much more fun (along with the usual suspects, Luke x2, Shawn, Georgie and Jules). This place is stunning, everything is within a stones throw, and we saw a wild Koala in one of the trees - Cute! as Liza would say.
Plus Jules and I were the only guys in our dorm and there was an absolutely stunning girl staying there, who we only bumped into a few times! God Damn you....Just playing!
I really wanted to stay longer here, as it was beautiful, and the gang hired a buggy to go to the other side of the island the next day, but my finances weren't looking that good, so one night only. However we did get to go Sea Kyacking (no idea of spelling) the next morning for free, and I went for a snorkel too. This was my first exposure to the reef, and it was beautiful, but will be doing snorkelling in Cairns so hopefully that will be even better.
So we said goodbye to the gang and once again Laurence was in good form, joking and laughing, we also picked up about 15 other passengerrs from Magnetic. I would have loved to stay here longer but it was not to be.
Mission Beach is famous for its skydiving over the reef, but again for Jules and I it was a stop over for Cairns. Luke did one, that we got to see it, did look stunning but again Nottingham all the way (where I did mine!). Mission Beach - really not somewhere I would like to stay, quiet, and the beach is not that nice, apart from some pictures I got just at dusk!.
So from here the East Coast was nearly complete, and with only one day of rain on the Whitsundays it had been the most sun I had experienced since getting to Australia. Just the road to Cairns left. And believe me this was an amazing one!
