Hi,
4th jan - Don't do the night train from Bangkok to Chaing Mai in 2nd class!! Even two bottles of whiskey couldn't even help with my problem of sleeping on public transport! 15 hours after leaving Bangkok we finally arrived in the more chilled city of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand.
First think we realised after getting out of the train station was the lack of tut tut's that was a welcome sight! The taxi's in Chaing Mai are these 'jump on jump off' trucks where the more people you can cram in the cheaper the journey is. We jumper on one of these and got a lift to a hostel that we had seen advertised of the STA Travel website. It was a lovely quite place that had a massive clean swimming pool that I made sure I was trying out with 20mins or so of arriving!
The first task that eveing was to find the hospital so that I could get my 2nd jab done after being bitten by 'superdog' that meant my beer budget for the evening had already lost a big chunk!
That evening we took a stroll to the night Market and enjoyed a few dinks before deciding on an earlish night to recover from that bloody train journey!
5th -6th Jan - Not very eventful day, just consisted of time around the pool and laughing at the silly amounts of snow in the UK that was being boardcasted on Thai TV! Sorry!
7th Jan - This was the best day so far. We all took a day trip to a local elephant camp where we all got the chance to feed them and go on an amazing elephant trek through the jungle, rivers and over hills.
That evening we had to arrange what our plan was next to get to Laos. After the constant moaning after the train journey I gave in and decided we should fly in and out of Laos for a 5 day flying visit rather than the 2 day slow boat and 1 day bus ride out after we had finished!
