Chang Mai
After seeing everything in Bangkok I decided to head to Chang Mai on the overnight Bus which was a 10 hour Journey but luckely for us they was only 15 of us on this Coach so we had 2 Reclining Seats each. I just wacked the iPod on & watched the views & knocked out about 5 hours kip because me & Jay had a late & drunken night in Bangkok. When we arrived at daft O clock in the Morning I decided to just check in where Claire, Sieska & Muriel were staying at the Plazza Inn which is a nice little spot near the river (they obviously did the research cos it was only 200 baht which is only 3 pounds a night) & decided to do the Treck with them.
Wasn't sure on this Treck cos obviously the only walking I have done in the last 10 years was to the Pubs in Yarm which is about a mile. I thought sod it, if my brother can walk from Mexico to Canada for 6 month then I can walk for three days in the Jungle. I wasn't prepared at all, the 4x4 rocked up & everyone was wearing top of the range hiking boots with walking sticks (haha only joking) but I had my 2 year old Addidas Y3 & just shot a few things into my small rucksack!!
Drove for about an hour really high into the Jungle & the first 30 mins was uphill & knacked me in, I thought if this continues I am b*****ed!! Anyway it levelled out & the Views were amazing, loads of Banana Trees, Dragon Flies, Rivers (heard me going on one here - haha). We walked for a while then went Elephant Trecking, I tghink me & Claire had the Biggest Elephent & as soon as we fed it banana's it went Banana's (haha). It lasted about 45 mins & it wasn't just flat ground, we actually went into the Jungle & the terrain was pretty steep at times that if we were not strapped in we would of defo fallen!!
After that we went walking again & it was really nice walking beside rappids & rivers then came to this huge Waterfall. You will see on the Pics but this was about 30 meters high & you could actually get under into the caves. I just got straight involved & went straight under the Waterfall & thought I'd get the Shampoo out & have a quick wash cos I was a sweaty man by this time. The walk was very infomative (heard me) & Rocky our Tour Guide explained all the Plantation & things we could eat & after a days walking we arrived at the Tribal Village where we were staying the first night.
This was Terrific & had our own Hut in the Jungle with a massive Mosquitoe Net hanging from the Roof. That night I drank Thai Wisky with Rocky & the others & had some Chang Beer. We had great food cooked for us by the Tribal Village people & they came around to see us (& sell us stuff). I got the Cards out & me & Claire taught the others to play Bulls*** of which was hard to explain to 2 Dutch, 2 Spanish, 2 French & 1 Thai but it was a good larfff & I ended up staying up late smoking Banana Leaves & stuff - haha!!
God this is going on forever & you are probably bored by now so I'll cut it short..............we trecked most of the next day in the deep jungle nearly falling over in my no grip Y3 trainers then reached the Highest point which was 2500 meters high & the views from the top were amazing!! Camp no 2 was next to the Waterfall & River & they was only me, Claire, Murial, Sieska, Rocky & the Family staying at this Camp. After a Swim/Wash in the River we had a gorgeous Thai Dinner which was prepared by the Family but a bit spicy for me but I washed it down with a few beers haha. the night was almost a Full Moon, sat next to the Fire with the Noise from the Waterfall & River was different, we were chatting away & I me & Claire smoked some Banana Leaf Tobacco & I ended up staying up late AGAIN!!
The next day we walked for about 4 hours, stopped at some wicked waterfall's then after Lunch we went Bamboo rafting of which I was helping steer at the back with the 3 Girls (Claire, Murial, Sieska) on our raft & didnt do much to be honest!! we went down the river rappids for about an hour & I thought I was a gonner about 4 times & we were not allowed to take any camera's or anything cos apparently most fall in but we didn't (due to my back steering - haha). Anyways it was a wicked experience & just standing there going down this river in the heat with wild Elephants in the Jungle was fantastic & I would recommend it to anyone!!
I paid 20 pounds for a 3 day Jungle Walk, Elephant Treck, Bamboo Rafting, Waterfalls, Swimming, 9 Meals, 2 nights accomodation, good company, smokes, Thai Wiskey.................absolute BARGAIN!!
Well your probs bored now & the women in the Internet Cafe is looking at her watch so gunna clock off. I will try to keep this up-to-date.
