Malasia
Lankarwi
After spending 2 1/2 Months in Thailand / Laos / Cambodia & all the Islands we had to move on, so our next stop was Malasia & we were told that the Island just off the West Coast called Lankarwi was nice & cheap.
We wanted to leave Thailand & Ko Lipe in style as we enjoyed it that much it would just top it off so we spent a bit more than a Ferry & got a Speedboat. When I mean a Speedboat this was small but very fast & it only took us 45 mins to get from Ko Lipe to the Malasian Border & Lankarwi. We were basically flying off the waves as it was quite choppy & me & Anthony were sat right at the front so we were in the Air off our Seats most of the time as we were jumping the waves. I totally enjoyed it but some of the Girls & Anthony hated it as they were crashing down on the seats as when we were jumping - gays!!
We rocked up at the Telaga Harbour Marina got our Malasian Stamp in our Passports then straight in a Minibus to Cenang Beach. This was where all the Backpackers went as it was cheaper & a better atmosphere. We checked into the Amzar Motel which was ok @ just 35 Ringitts a room with Aircon etc.
We hired a Moped for the 3 days that we were there as this was the best way to get around & as we always do when we get to a new place we get our bearings, look at the Postcards & see where is nice.......... get a map & ask the locals where the pictures are on the Poscards on the Map then just drive to them all.....easy as that!! Then you get to see all the best parts of the Islands.
So when we arrived we went to Tanjung Rhu Beach which was up North as this was basically the best place for the Sunset - as shown on the poscards - haha. I know it is really sad but I would always try & get the same picture or even better as the ones on the poscard - haha. I should be a photographer - not!! We were told by the locals that all the Beaches up North are really secluded & quiet as everyone lives in Kuat Town (Capital) which is on the Southern Tip. This place was amazing as the Beach was about 1 mile long with only about 5 people on the whole Beach & the views onto the Limestone Cliff Islands were really nice how gay do I sound!!
We headed to Kuat Town to get my Backpack Zip fixed as tyhe teeth had broken & Zip had come appart & we found this little tailors which fixed it in less than 10 Mins & only wanted 2 Ringitts (40p) for it. The people here are very poor & dont get paid that much so I gave him 10 Ringits (2 pounds) for himself & that put a smile on his face. That was probs his weekly wage but nowt to me...............I'm loaded arn't I - not -haha. There was not much to see in the Town just high rised flats & a few shopping Centres. The biggest was probably the Size of the Cleveland Centre in Boro but better shops so we left after an hour.
We headed North where all the best Beaches were as it was a nice day 30c & drove throught the Tropical Rain Forrest where there was Lizards & Monkeys on the Side of the road with signs saying beware of the animals & we came across the Datai Hotel down this windy road in the middle of knowhere so we checked in. This is Officially the Best Hotel in Malasia a 6 Star Resort & we thought the Four Seasons Hotel was nice but this was far superior. Everyone was calling us Sir & treating us like we were the King or something. You will see from my Lankarwi photographs on here the pictures of this Hotel!! It had 3 Pools, SPA's, Grand Piano's etc etc .......I was just about to go on one into detail about this Hotel but that is sad!!
On the North Coast we also went to Pantai Pasir Tengkoras Beach which was the best on the Island.......it was nice but nothing compared to the Beaches on Ko Lipe & Phi Phi so we just turned our nose up to it a done one!!
We were told by other Travellers that the Best thing about this Island is the Cable Car so we headed up to it afterwards. I am scared of heights & secluded little places - (gay I know) of which this was both but I thought I'm not going to experience anthing like this again so I done it - hero - haha!! The Cable Car went up into the Mountains then across from one point to the other then you could get off at each point to the bridge & viewing towers. The Views of the Whole Island & little Islands off were amazing.....you can see the Lankarwi Photo's on here & the highest point was 710 meters above Sea Level which was high for me as I was standing on the edge of the bridge. My next step is a sky dive & Bungee to fight my fear of gayness - haha!!
On the nights we met up with with some friends from canada & Perth that we had met during the days on the Bars on the Beach but the Nightlife here is plop!! Only about 3 descent pubs on the B each & no Clubs or anything but we came here to chill so we didn't really drink just a few cans with Meals & that was it.
Three days here were enough, we had seen everything so we booked a flight to Kuala Lumpa with Air Asia for 20 pounds - happy days!!
