Where the Munich Beer Hall Putsch occurred
The Munich Beer Hall Putsch was Hitler's first attempt to overthrow the government. He held three high government officials hostage here, in the Hofbräuhause, to try to convince them to join his side. While he was negotiating, the other people in the Beer Hall were getting rowdy and wondering what was going on, so he went out and made what people say was "the most moving speech ever." He was able to convince everyone there to join the Nationalists. Unfortunately the government officials did not hear the speech, escaped and after a series of events, Hitler was nearly killed in a street fight and arrested. In jail, he decided he would have to gain power democratically, rather than by force, and hence began his rise to power.
