Bobby Sands was a political prisoner during the 1981 Hunger Strikes. His supporters helped elect hm as a Member of Parliment because they believed that the British government would release him from prison as they would not let one of their political leaders die in prison. They were wrong however, and Bobby Sands died in jail after 66 days without food. He was 27. 2006 is the 25th anniversary of the Hunger Strikes, so Bobby Sands is a popular mural.
