Danielles Little Vacation
Hey,
Well we left sydney on friday evening to head to melbourne, we were so excited about the whole neighbours thing but first we had to deal with the 12 hour over night bus!! It wasn't as dreadful as i thought it was going to be, but i didn't get much sleep and i have now realised i have an issue of where to put my head when i'm trying to sleep sat up! It just does't feel comfortable anywhere - but i was far too excited to care!
We got to the hostel around 9am and luckily could get straight into our dorm and have a power nap! Even when we did wake up we didn't venture out of the hostel as it was bouncing it down (and having not dealt with rain for so long - i wasn't sure what kind of lasting effects i may incur if i went out in it!). So evey and i spent the afternoon playing cards with a guy who knows eveys brother (its such a small world).
Sunday we went to the victoria market, and i purchased a few pressies for people, yes mummy - i did get you the cork hat you so desperately want!!! Evey went all out and bought a didgerdoo, which we now have to carry with us so were even more layden down with stuff. But i do believe that after a few more practice sessions we'll both be pretty damn amazing at playing it - which is good as when we run out of money were going to busk with it!! I'm sure we'll a make a fortune with our talent - either that or people will pay us to be quiet!
In melbourne at the moment theres an aussie rules football tournament on so we decided to head along to see what this completely random sport was all about!!
The game was st. kilda vs collingwood - its actually a fun game with a bit of rugby, footie, basketball all thrown in and anything else they can think off! At first we didn't understand the scoring but this guy explained it to us! At full time it was a draw so they went into extra time with st. kilda going into the lead then collingwood taking the lead and winning the finall score was 73 - 74! It was a big stadium and they had an attendence of 25 thousand but there was still lots of empty seats!! So all in all it was fun but it still doesnt beat a good old game of british football!!
We had an early night on sunday as monday was the big day....................yes we were having a day of cheese on the neighbours tour and at the neighbours party!!!
Evey and i couldn't have been more excited on monday morning - we were worse than kids!! After all the pick ups we drove to st. kilda where its filmed and headed to erinsborough high, it was funny as its an actually school so you can imagine all the aussie kids going - look at those sad brits again staring at a school (no aussies seem to like neighbours!) But who cares - we loved it! We next drove past the studio but unfortunately you can't go in so you kind of hang around in case any stars come in or out!
Next was the moment we'd all been waiting for going to ramsey street! The street is much smaller than you think but other than that its exactly the same and you can imagine all the going ons in ramsey st! The people who own those houses rake in the cash from the production company and theres only ever been 3 sales in 20 years - one of which was a british couple buying max and stephs house!! While i was on the street i was on a mission to steal part of a plant or bush for christy to plant in her garden, which i successfully did!! The plant is now winging its way to you via snail mail!! So big thank you to me i think!! While we were on the tour we met fran and lisa from devon we all arranged to team up for the quiz they do at the neighbours party - we felt we couldn't be beaten!
So monday night, all glammed up we headed to the party i was quite shocked there was over 300 brits in this pub all there for neighbours, it was quite crazy!! After a while they brought out our hosts for the evening , paul robinson (one of the originals), jennay and max hoyland (whos much better looking in real life). We were kind of hoping for harold and toadie, but harold was busy and toadie was banned for his bad behaviour and having a very naughty line he used on the ladies (ask me later!!). They did questions and answers then as we did the quiz they walked round for photos, they were all really lovely - if not a little drunk! After the quiz it turned into a night club and thats when it felt like i could have been at home.......... all the typical behaviour you'd see on a sunday night at the big F!! We had so much fun, i think its ranked up there as one of my favourite nights out since i've been away!! The ladies from devon were class (we'll see ya in byron bay) as were the boys from our hostel (esp. when tom put his arm through a window and ended up in caualty - what night out is complete without an emergency run!!!) I also bumped into Gill armstrong smiths neighbour, james and his mate gaz again (we previously all met in south africa!) Crazy, Crazy!!
Anyway it was so much fun - and a definate must for anyone visisting oz!!
All the photos are up for viewing - i'm sure you'll all be able to see how much fun it was!
Ok gotta sign off its 7:45pm and i'm going to bed! I was back on the overnighter last night to sydney so i'm dying today!!!!
Miss you all
Lots of love
Danielle
