Well, sadly, we have come to our last destination of this incredible exciting trip but this 10 day stay at a beautiful resort has made it not so sad at all. After a non-stop sightseeing tour of Asia, Australia. New Zealand (back to Australia) then Singapore, we have stayed at 16 hotels, used 26 different styles of transport, flown 12 times and visited 7 countries, 7 major cities and a club in Bangkok that I certainly won't be visiting again!! it's been a busy few months, so now it's time to just let it all hang out, no Dan's not sunbathing naked! We are staying at the Vijitt Resort a lovely authentic traditional Thai style resort with thatched roofs, wooden bungalows on stilts, an outside rain shower and surrounded by palm trees, hammocks an infinity pool and sun loungers galore, theres not a German in sight. Although there's not much of beach to talk about because it's tidal and basically the tide comes right up to hotel in the morning and then sweeps out in seconds to about 200 metres away in the early evening. We noticed the seabed moving one evening and went to investigate, we realised it was a million tiny crabs scurrying about in blind panic taking quick cover in the sand as we approached them. Was quite crunchy under your feet walking back! So with no beach to lie on people sunbathe round the rather lush pool which is warm as well n look out or dip in the sea Bliss.
Yesterday we hired a car and drove to busier parts of the island to have a beach day but found when we got there, there wasn't much room for us as it was so crowded. People were almost touching shoulders there were that many! We came from one extreme to another! It's obviously a busy time of year as every restaurant and beach we visited was like going to Southend on the one sunny day of the year, not pleasant. Unfortunately some of Thailand has got very touristy and Patong in Phuket is an example of this.
Back to the quiet of our resort Dan got very excited at the prospect of volleyball which started with just him and two of the staff! A sigh of relief later when a few other guests joined in, as not wanting to cut his toe open again Dan was refusing to run for the ball! Dan then tried his hand at fishing, no official lesson Dan just muscled in on the action of two local fisherman minding their own business. An hour later no fish and one unhappy thai fisherman! I'm now off to a massage lesson, it was that or napkin folding and I suspect Dan has put me down for that too!
Yesterday was a bit crazy as far as things go around here, in minutes it went from bright sun to dark sky, full scale winds and then basically a full on monsoon, I thought the thatched roofs were going to get ripped off and blown away! We all huddled, yep you guessed it, in the bar!
Had a cheesy experience on one of our nights in when we asked for wine n a cheese board for the evening. We got minute slithers of cheese n 4 crackers! We reluctantly complained n as a result spent the next few days having large amounts of cheese delivered at every meal and delivered to our room too. Oh how I wished I complained about the wine!
Apart from the weird Chinese wedding thing which blessed about 12 couples in one go the first evening we were here, not much goes on in the evening so we have made a large dent in their few hundred dvd collection..and Dan even got up last night at 4am for the West Ham game! Us bored? Nope just us getting a quick tv fix and a relaxing time before our next adventure.
Back from massage lesson now and was all going well until Dan turned up halfway through where I think the teacher was more keen on impressing him then he was teaching me! Napkin folding next? No, not me but Dan is up for it I think.
