So,
We left the smog filled Delhi behind and headed west towards Jaisalmer, before we were to reach there though, we had a few stops to make, the first being in Mandawa. This was literally a stop over although the hotel was beautiful. The town itself was very old and run down with many peole trying to make a living selling tat to tourists, quite a sad place really. The guy at the hotel gave us a little tour of the town and took us into whats known as Havellis. These are big 2-3 storey houses built for the owners of business' and the family. The family would live on the 1st floor while all the business took place on the ground floor and in the courtyard area. Nowadays this type of thing rarely happens as its an old tradition but we did come across one Havelli that was still being used as it was in the old days. One thing that did open our eyes was this kind of pool area in the middle of the courtyards, the guide said that this is used to gather rain water which is then used for drinking, washing, cooking etc and just as he said this a little child stood over the pool and weed straight into it, dont think we'll be having dinner there tonight!
Apart from the tour not much else happened here, literally a come, stay, go in the morning job.
Next stop Bikaner
