So many tramps in Budapest compared to Munich. Unreal. Also I haven't seen any "deaf" gypsy girls asking for money yet.
When I left Budapest on Sunday morning, I was ready. What I was not ready for was the train journey. I thought a 14hour train trip a few days before would make a 7hour journey a doddle. Wrong.
When I did finally arive in Munich I got off at the wrong stop. I was in Munich but not the desired central station (Hauptbahnhof). It seemed most of my fellow passengers also made the same mistake as we all worked out we needed to hop on the U-Bahn to get to central station.
Wombats hostel here in Munich is pretty awesome. Socially it's great but the internet is not as good as the Grand in Berlin and the shower is always cold. Overall it's good though.
Watched Chelsea beat Sp*rs in the hostel pub, tasting some fine Bavaria beer while enjoying the annoyed T*ttenham fan's faces next to me. Doesn't get much better.
Today I checked out Marienplatz and the cathedrals and other buildings in the square. I then caught the U-Bahn to the Allianz Arena, had a tour for €10 whilst the whole time hoping I would retrace my steps back to this stadium to watch Chelsea play in the Champions League final 2012 in May. I hope.
I then went to the 1972 Olympic Park which was awesome. Words can't describe the aura the place has. Almost haunted, forgotten, derelict... none quite fit how it is perfectly. Some of it is still in use and lots of cyclists and joggers but compared to how it would have been buzzing 40 years ago and how it was the centre of the world's attention during the hostage situation during the Munich Olympics, it now feels very empty - even though I never experienced it during its peak. I even stumbled across an old ticket booth that seemed to have had no renovation done to it in it's 40 year existence!
I then headed back to central Munich and walked to where the annual Oktoberfest beer festival is held. Just a huge empty park but it was awesome checking it out. Oktoberfest is high up on my Bucket List. Hopefully in 2.5 years I'll be back there getting drunk in a tent with hundreds of other people!
