Hello again guys, We're now well into our tour of the south island of New Zealand and currently in Queenstown - the adrenalin capital of New Zealand! Before we arrived here though we took a nice scenic drive from Franz Josef to Makarora seeing some beautiful sights on route. Our first stop was Fox glacier, which is a very similar glacier to Franz Josef, we both thought that Franz Josef was slightly more impressive as the foot of the glacier was between two large mountains whcih made it a nice backdrop. Further on we stopped at a small lookout over a bay named after a dog! Unfortunately, we cant remember the dogs name so lets just call it rover for now.
After our brief photo stop we continued our journey southward and the blue pools. The pools were absoloutely stunning, we couldnt believe how gorgeous the scenery was and how tranquil the place was, to make it even better the sun came out and the temperature rose to 20 degrees yippee! The water here though was sooo cold, some mad guys were swimming in it, we were slightly more intelligent and decided to stay dry!
Our final stop for the day was the town of Makarora which has a population of about 50 people and is completely isolated in the middle of nowhere. It was beautiful though, snow capped mountains, gorgeous walks and a karaoke bar!! It was here that we stayed the night and after about 2 litres of wine we hit the karaoke, Shell and the girls sang Madonna - Like a prayer and Dan and the Guys did a little number called YMCA - unfortunately we couldnt dress up, I was goin to be the indian.
After waking up a little groggy and with no remnition of last nights events, we got onto the bus for 10:30 and headed further south to a town called Wanaka. Here we left some of our karaoke buddies and ended up taking a kayak and paddled through Lake Wanaka. It was really nice and we got plenty of snaps of the lake.
Finally we continued south toward Queenstown - when disaster struck! Our bus managed to not only puncture its tyre, but also wreck the suspension. Luckily a mechanic was on board but was obviously unable to fix the suspension - a matter of having no tools in his backpack - what an idiot! We ended up hijacking the magic tour bus and he took us, via the original bungy site, to Queenstown. We watched a few maniacs jump off the bridge doing bungys and then checked into our hostel for Spag Bol and our overnight stay.
Tomorrow we have booked up a horse ride through some of the scenes from Lord of the rings - should be awesome!! Keep you posted guys love to you all x x x Dan and Shell x x x
