Sorry for screwing this up but it seems I have forgotten one of the highlights of the entire trip! Maybe it was my eagerness to chat about our drunken Casino night, or maybe it was BECAUSE of our drunken Casino night, but either way it needs rectified. Sorry Mary, but I think I have my dates all sorted now.
So, in the morning (before the fatefaul Casino night) we went to the main attraction of El Chalten, the Perito Mereno Glacier. Expecting to see something along the lines of what we got in Torres Del Painem we were shocked at what we got - the most enormous glacier you could imagine, and one of only three that are not receding in the current climate challenges.
We took a boat to the South face. When we got up close to the 5-storey height mammoth I pointed out to Kimbo a large chunk starting to splot. 30seconds later and we were treated to a rare and spectacular close-up view of the ice falling into the sea. The sound was incredible and the waves it caused had us bobbing madly for a while. I manage to capture a few shots on camera but it wasn't quick enough to make the most of it.
We then had lunch and started to walk the trail. We wondered why the tour lasted three hours but honestly we could have been there for three days. Its hard to explain but it was just mesmorizing trying to take in the scale (15-storeys high at the North face and the size of three mountains in mass) while eagerly awaiting th next spectacular crash of the next block.
In the interest of keeping things brief and the lack of words I can use to describe I will leave it there. To the North!
