Started another day with a free breakfast and expectations weren't high when the room cost $50 a room. Jack made his own waffle and there was boiled eggs, sausage, biscuit, bagels, Danishes, cereals, yoghurts, juices and coffee. Not a bad spread. Off in the Duarango heading down the I95 for Savannah. Not long after we started (15 mins) we left North Carolina and into South Carolina for the next 3 hours before hitting Georgia and Savannah. The trip while great on the freeways has been pretty boring. A lot of forest and the odd little satellite suburb seemingly in the middle of nowhere. My memories of 26 years ago are fuzzy but there are some clear ones .... Driving past big Southern houses - hopefully they were Georgian and we will still see some.
We arrived and our little GPS lady got us to our home for tonight. Two rooms beside each other with pull out sofas and king size beds and free breakfast. Very nice rooms - Springhill suites by Marriott. Next door was a place called Logan's Steakhouse so we wandered over for a late lunch. $56 for lunch which included a wine, a margarita ( the supreme) , 2 soft drinks and lunch. I had a steak sandwich and sweet potato fries.... Massive. Adrian and Kate got the wings sampler each - buffalo wings , Parmesan and garlic wings and another wing type. There were 4 wings minimum of each and their chickens are obviously on steroids!!! Huge!!
After lunch we headed off for Tybee Beach - the filming location of "The Last Song" with Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus. Didn't go far enough south at the beach to find the actual house but saw plenty of gorgeous houses and the bech where it all happened, the light house and the church. Very quiet being winter and all but very pleasant out there still. Had a game of Giant's treasure to lighten the afternoon. Some gas and icecreams before leaving a beautiful Tybee Island.
It is now 6.49 pm and I am still full as from lunch and I expect that there will be murmurings from the rest about food soon. Sick of eating. Loving the different foods but sick of eating.
Late addition to today's story was dinner... Yes more food. We ate again at Logan's Roadhouse not Steakhouse. The margarita was not as good tonight as lunchtime but the bowl of chili ($4) was small but beautiful. Jack stuck to kids meal cos the size is right. Kate had 2 sides ( baked potato with cheese and sour cream and , of course, fries) while Adrian had lobsters tails with side of fries and coleslaw. So with drinks and desserts we blew the budget out at about $75. Where is Aus could you do that?????
People (wait staff) think we are weird asking for appetizers only but even the size of their appertizers are really still too large!!!
Tomorrow we are off to Orlando where we set up home in an apartment for a week and then another apartment for another week. Excited because I can finally wash and choose what clothes I want to wear not what's is clean .... And we are down to the last set of clothes each.
