The weather bureau had been predicting storms for Saturday, so we decided to make it "Shopping Day"! The night before, Lauren had researched shopping malls with the type of shops she wanted to visit. After she narrowed it down to the top 10, we then shortened the list to the top 5... Lawd it was going to be a long day for Dad. After spending 4 hours in shoppers heaven at the first mall (I went to the movies and left her to it), it became apparent, we either need more days or less shops...
We left shopping for today and headed up town to Central Park. Instead of taking the easy route and hiring a couple of individual bicycles, we chose the impractical "tandem" option. Lauren will swear until she is blue in the face that she was peddling, but I can tell you, it felt like I was lugging some extra baggage around on a couple of the hills.. As the sun was setting over Central Park, we headed back towards Broadway for dinner, through Times Square and onto our bus terminal bound for home. We had certainly covered some foot miles through the course of the day and were both shattered.
While the feeling has been building for a while, really about the time we left the clan in Scotland I suppose, the end to this adventure is coming around way too fast! After the first two weeks, it felt like the trip would go on for ever. After the fourth week, things seemed to accelerate a little, by week five, it was OMG, we only have one week to go! Today is our last day…
As it's Sunday, we headed for the illusive "9th Avenue markets. Brad and I had enjoyed a morning here in 2014, but this time, most of the locals we spoke to were a little vague about the whereabouts and timing of the markets themselves. As we wandered 9th Ave, it became obvious they were not taking place today. Feeling a little peckish by now, we plonked ourselves in a trendy looking café for breakfast. We had noticed the odd rainbow flag on the way, but didn't twig to the fact that we were in a rather gay part of NYC. Enjoying a wonderful parade of oh so colourful characters over breakfast, it was eventually time to move on to a little more retail therapy. This was Lauren's last chance to pick up the little things and gifts she had been looking for before we had to pack for an early departure tomorrow morning.
