Hello!
We have been in New Zealand for two whole weeks now staying with Clare and Gordon in Auckland (they're great!). Our adventures from Tahiti were quickly followed by a sharp change in temperature and good old drizzle! We were whisked away to Mount Ruapehu, Ohakune, for a couple of days snowboarding which was very enjoyable despite the terrible weather conditions. Craig and i now borderline pro (ok semi-pro) and began busting out some tricks demonstrated brilliantly by Clare and Gordon. We spent the next week going into the city and visiting Albany shopping centre to try to get our bearings and collect essential info and items for the campervan leg of the trip.
We organised the canyoning for the next week and were invited for some mountainbiking with John, Gordon's brother. A whole forest had been devoted to making bike trails with jumps and obstacles which made the experience no less enjoyable but just as exhausting. I bucked up the courage to buy an i-pod nano and it feels great, my condolences to ye olde zen and the tape deck. Next came the Canyoning which was a great day out to Piha. With only a small group, us and two other englash girls, we jumped into cold pools, abseiled beside enormous waterfalls and crawled through tiny gaps! All in all it was really fun and we are very grateful to the guys back home who organised the day (Big love!). The second week we continued to plan our journey but were introduced to Fifa 04' which slowed proceedings. Clare challenged us to Scrabble on various nights and she is a formidable opponent. It has been nice to be in one place and get organised for the trip ahead. I am pleased to report the Mac is now fixed ("hurrah!") but sadly we lost the Tahiti photos.
So finally we give our thanks to Clare and Gordon for having us and making our first couple of weeks so enjoyable. Jana has arrived and is recovering from the long flight from Germany but is in fine spirits and ready for adventure! We now have the campervan and are ready to see what New Zealand has to offer!
