We flew to Quito from the Galapagos on Wednesday. We are staying in a good hostel which picked us up from the airport. On Thursday we went on a tour of the 'Old Town' of Quito, which had some impressive cathedrals and churches. Then we went to the 'Middle of the World', a monument on the Equator, or not as other places claim. We went to a museum where we did some experiments including balancing an egg on a nail.
We spent the next two days in the cloud forest about 2 hours away. There were loads of hummingbirds, and we managed to spot a toucan and a big red woodpecker. We had paid a cheaper price to have a shared dormitory in the lodge. Luckily for us there was nobody else staying that night in the dormitory, so we had a two storey lodge with 5 beds all to ourselves! There was a balcony with a hammock outside. We did lots of walking in the forest and even got up at 6am to watch the birds!
