Well hello to all!
This blog is especially for the mams to keep them happy! Now that I have 2 it is double the trouble! (This is Frankie writing by the way!) So where do I start there is a lot to cover. We flew into Aukland about a week ago and we have been really busy. We started off at Takapuna and set up camp on the water front which was very pretty. It was lovely to find that I have family over here so Chris and I were fed and watered at my dads cousins David and Annette which was lovely. After that we headed up to the bay of Islands.
The Bay of Islands was beautiful we took a boat cruise out and got to dot around the different islands and at the end we stopped at the hole in the rock, the boat actually sailed throught it which was..... interesting I did not have my sea legs at this point and turned a bit green to say the least (think its my old age!) It was funny because we came across some geordies which made us feel right at home.
After the Bay of Islands we headed across the north to Piha, which is quite a big surf spot in NZ. We got there to find that the waves were 10 foot so needless to say we sat that surf out! It was a stunning place and apparently the film the Piano was shot there. We spent a couple of nights there and on the second day we went on a lovely walk up to a waterfall which was by far the most beautiful one I have ever seen. That is what is so great about over here you are never far from a good hike. Chris and I really love the outdoors aspect of the country, we love a good ramble.
After Piha we stopped back in at David and Annettes place and had 2 nights in a proper bed yippee! We went to visit my dads great auntie Peggie who is 90 and she was a delight and so amazing for her age. Later on that day we headed over to Wahiki Island and did some wine tasting... I know what you are all thinking it is a tough old life but someone has to do it! After that we headed out towrds Raglan (Chris' dream surf spot.)
So that brings us almost to date. We have had 3 nights at Raglan, we both had a surf the first day. Chris had a surf today and I sat in the van and took shots of him riding some great waves (they were too big for me today I know my limits!) The most exciting part for me is what we did this afternoon! We went on a tour around Hobitton yes the town of Hobbits frm Lord of the rings we went on a tour of the movie set. It was very interesting, we even got to go into Bilbo Baggins' house! I must say there were some film freaks there that took it all a bit seriously and were almost kissing the ground the Hobbits had walked on. We have some great pics but can not seem to find an internet place that you can upoad at.
I hope this wee entry has made the mams and all the rest of you happy? I can not believe it is only 6 and a bit weeks until we get home. And Mum thanks again for telling me how much I will strugge when I come back. What is work again?!?! Anyway must dash as the cosy camper van bed is calling and I am tired after a long day spent with hobbits!!
Love to you all
