Meet miss Lady. She is an Anatolian Shepherd, like all the other guard dogs that are bred and raised at CCF. What makes her special is that she is the female breeding dog! Even though she appears to be super sweet, she has a job to do. Guard dogs mark their territories so that farmers can be assured that no cheetah will come onto their property and take their livestock (seeing as cheetahs are territorial and would not go into someone else’s territory). One of my favorite quotes here is: “Each dog is a farmer’s livelihood,” which is absolutely true. For farmers to qualify, they see how we farm here at CCF, give them pointers, and help them to find the right guard dog for them, which is financially better than building and upkeeping fences, is safe for the ecosystem, and more! Even after a dog is given to a farmer, CCF takes the time to check that each dog is being well taken care of, if not, they confiscate the dog. When dogs are retired, they either stay at our facility or are taken as house pets.
