hello guys, sorry for the delay in blogs,
it is sometimes hard to find a computer that works effiencintly enough for the task!
So i am here to finally report of the natural wonder that is Iguazzu Falls. A little interesting fact is... these falls were used in the making of the most recent Indiana Jones movie, the rumours are it was Niagra, but it was done in brazil and argentine...ha! anyway, to the interesting parts.
We flew into the town of Foz du Iguazzu and were pleasantly surprised by the green exopance that seemed to be very well maintined. It was an easy trasition, the flight was only one and a half hours and we caught the local bus on the other side to the town bus depot from where we picked up signs to our pousada-guesthouse-hostel kinda place. It was undergoing some renovation, like a lot of places in off peak season, so the builders were at work. But the room we were given made up for it, an en suite with double bed for myself and a single for rhi for allmost half the price of a 24 bed dorm in Rio!
So the next day we got up to be spoilt with an amazin breakfast of eggs and sausage and cake and fruit ect. We got the bus to the Brazilain side of the falls, which has the panoramic veiws of the falls (argentina is over the top of the falls). We paid our entrace to the national park and set about walkin one of the trails alongside the falls, after a 5 minute walk the path opened up to our first veiw of the falls, very spectaular, huge, but not the end of what we were to witness. The trail was around 2km long and hugged the edge of the falls all the way to the Devils Gorge, we took it slow and saw eveything in detail! when we reached the mouth of the two rivers which flow into one to form the Devils Gorge we found a wlakway that jutted out into river, so we ventured out and got soaked to the bone as expected, and as you can see from the pictures. It was well worth it for the spectacular veiws and a real representation of the actual power of the falls, the noice was thunderous.
The sky was grey and a little rainy which was a shame but the day was amazing all the same.
During the rest of the time in Iguazzu, we thought it best not to spend the money to see the falls from the Argentinian side as the sky was grey and the weather was poor, meaning visability was ruined and not worth the extra reals!
we did take in an amazing bird park, which sound a little dull, but once inside it was once again spectacular, miles and miles of routes that all lead to more birds, we were allowed to walk amoungst some enclosures, and as you can see we made friends with some parrots and my favourite... the toucans. We also saw great eagles, king vultures, caiman, turtles, monkeys, snakes and a beautiful little humming bird set up, tiny things not shy and always buzzing in your ear!
So the trip to Iguazzu was sucessful and a welcome pleasant change to Sau Paulo!
Rhi will update next with the wonderful city of Buenos Aires!
