well...how we suffered on that bus journey !! ahhh!!! all self-inflicted so no, we do not expect any sympathy!
So we arrive in Franz Josef which reminded us of a ski resort sort of place.. it was lovely..
After checking in we decided we would treat ourselves to a nice dinner in one of the cafes...well it was gorgeous!! we loved it ! and after nearly a week living on 2minute noodles which only cost 20p a pack we definately deserved it! haha
we booked our glacier climb for the next day! ahhhh...after looking at pictures and listening to the talk we both got quite nervous ..looks like extremely hard work..we are not exactly the gym going fitness fanatics..oh , ok lets be completely honest! if we could have afforded to do the helicopter trip up the glacier it was a no-brainer! ..no, skint as we are we were on our way to doing it!
Lisa had to sit down and speak with a rep from the Glacier hike centredue to her back and neck problems.. she explained that there will be a lot of pressure on the lower spine sue to the length of walking on completely uneven ice/rocks..etc..then Lisa had to read and agree to their procedure on if anything should happen we are liable to pay for the helicopter to take me off of the glacier.. well, lisa sent jayne to the queue so she didnt hear the talk..cheeky creeky! and after the rounded up advice of "its best you probably don't complete the full-day hike, but it is completely at your risk"..
stubborn and determind Lisa thought..."hey, everyone else is doing it! I will do it, you just watch..and I shan't be coming down in a helicopter either!"
So, off we were the next morning at 9.15am getting kitted up in yet another glamourous outfit!! haha.. here we go! on the bus up to the glacier we were both very nervous again!!
we chose to go into the ...well...group 6 its known as..aka..the photo taking group..aka..the unfit lazy slow group. Bring it on!
All we can say is it was AMAZING...words cannot even begin to describe climbing the galcier..we had the put crampons on our hiking boots and off we went..
It was such an experience..just a shame that Lisa's back went at around lunch-time..6 hrs before we actually finished the climb..so braved faced and not to be beaten We both finished the climb with huge smiles on our faces! Our leader Scott who is only 20 was great to banter with..
That evening was spent relaxing, well...shattered from the climb and Lisa in absolute agony we went to the bar for a couple and then went to bed...such an early start the next day! legs aching sooooo much...
hope you love the pics!
we were very very proud of ourselves ...
