Hello all!
Wow it has been such a long time since our last update and there is so much to talk about with so little time!
First, Pasaymayo, where we went to Eco Truly Park, was simply amazing! Such a beautiful place, surrounded by tall mountains of sand on one side, living amonst fields of beautiful gardens and truly (the sand structures, pictures soon to follow) and the Pacific on the other side. We went exporing caves, walking the beach, ate delicious food, and for the majority of the time we spent there, there was a festival going on! Eco Truly park is not only a farm, but a Hare Krishna temple. Hare Krishnas believe in Krishna, similar to Hinduism and is a Vedic religion, using the Bagavad Gita as their scripture. This religion is the oldest religion in the world, a precursor to Judaism, Islamic religions, Catholic and Christianity, and actually has no known date. Their temple was so beatufiul it is hard to describe and the people that lived and visited this place were so welcoming, understanding, and helpful as far as answering any questions we had about anything!
The festival here was so much fun! We went from having maybe 15 or 20 people on the farm to about 300! The food was sooo amazing (they eat vegetarian), and one of the women on the farm was in charge of the snacks and she backed the most amazing cookies, cakes, pies, pizzas, empanadas, you name it, it was all so delicious and sweet! This festival was also a chance for all the temples to coordinate, there is at least on in every South American country, however, there is usually more than one in each country. The Guru Maharaj, who is the spiritual leader for all of the Hare Krishna Eco Truly farms, came to visit for the festival which was very exciting and special. He is essentially the father of all these people and help to guide them in a healthy, spiritual and physical life. He was an amazing person, Cindi and I got to talk with him, and was even woken up by him at 6 30 in the morning to attend one of his lectures (which might i add was in spanish so for the most part we had no idea what was going on). Regardless, his intentions were good and he is a very selfless person, offering all he could to others. Also, the day before the festival ended it was his birthday and oh my, there was so much cake and it was the best cake ive ever had in my life! Will definately never forget that!
After Eco Truly, me, Cindi, and our Columbian friend Jhonny (Jhonny Bravo) and some other folks who didnt stay with us for our next excursion, headed north to Ecuador, we bused from Lima to Tumbes (right on the boarder) and it took us 22hrs. Yes, we spent 22hrs on a bus starting from 2pm to the following morning. Very interesting. Anyways, we arrived in paradise, aka the north shore of Peru and camped on a beach in Zohorritos. The water was like bath water, warm with hugeeee waves. Lots of fun. I met a woman from Quito while i was practicing yoga on the beach and she offered Cindi and I a place to stay while we were in town which is excellent!!
After a day and night of the beach we headed to another Eco Truly temple in Rio Negro near Puyo and Banos. So Beautfiul! It is in the middle of the rainforest, there is a waterfall and not too many living structures. There is only one person who works there and he is a little wacky, in fact he really annoys Cindi which , well, to me is kinda funny because he has no idea and just loves to talk talk talk. and lucky for me i dont understand as much Spanish as Cindi so he doesnt really talk to me! haha. anyways, it is beautiful here and all together we are happy and comfortable. We are looking forward to the Galapagos, which is sneaking up on us, and i cannot wait to upload some more of my pictures.
Lots of love,
colleen and cindi
