I feel like a right housewife this morning, alittle bit of shopping, coffee, strolling around Mendoza enjoying the sunshine. It´s been a lovely couple of days here. Mendoza is so different from Tucuman, quite modern, big wide tree lined avenues, earthquake prove!!, people sitting out having coffee on all the pedestrian streets. Monday I chilled after my lovely suite bus experience. Hiliarious, you almost forget you are on a bus. Wine before dinner, hot meal served up to you and a lovely flat bed for sleeping. I found myself sitting next to a lovely Argentinian Marcelo so we started chatting from the word go and didn´t really stop. The journey flew..
Tuesday morning I set off early catching a local bus to the outskirts to pick up a bike and head into the vineyards. It´s a really lovely way of doing it at your own pace stopping off at the different Bottegas, sampling, discovering, and burning a few calories in between. We stopped at the cutest little family fun chocoate factory. Complete Indulgence, I wanted to try everything! The guide assured me that his irish cream had won a prize last year and was far superior to Baileys. I tasted it and it was good so I bought a little bottle.I'm such an easy target!Tuesday evening Marcelo took me for dinner. All very pleasant and charming. This is a classy blog with high standards so no juicy details! Let's just say it was very nice to be in the company of the perfect gentleman. He manages admist alot things a private plastic surgery clinic. Could be a useful contact for a couple of years time when everything starts heading south!!!
Wednesday afternoon I did a city tour to fill in the gaps of the history of Mendoza. The city has been destroyed a couple of times by serious earthquakes so in terms of ancient buildings there are very few but it has a lovely massive park to the north. It reminded me alittle of Regents Parks but No rose garden Hana!Afterwards we headed to the outskirts to visit the Church of our Lady of Lourdes. From what I understood if my spanish hasn´t failed me a person brought back a poster and statue from Lourdes in 1920´s here. Soon after they became alittle shrine and people wishes and intentions started to come true. I put a photo of the shrine in the album as it was so strange to walk around and see everyone´s messgaes of thanks. I left alittle note for you all. Besides the old capel they have built a massive new modern church. It looks more like a convention centre. You can just imagine some American preacher ´praising Jesus´ there!!
Yesterday I joined a tour bright and early at 7 to head out west to the border with Chile. We covered serious miles and given the cosy warm atmosphere of the bus I couldn´t seem to keep my eyes open! Thank god it wasnt just me though. We visited the unsual structure of Puente del Inca, said to be a gift from the gods. There is a story that one of the sons of the Inca leader´s was terrible ill but couldn´t go to the nearby city to get help as the passage was blocked. The bridge is natural formation and after a landslide was created making the passage possible!!Anyway it represents a natural continuation of the route from Bolivia and Peru of the Inca´s through to Chile. Afterwards we headed up high to the border with Chile , 4´000 feet above sea level to the Cross of San Chritobal. Nice and chilly as you can see from the photo!!
For the afternoon I´m going to chill abit by the pool and then head to San Juan later tonight. Have a good weekend everyone XXXX
