After a long drive from Fox Glacier we finally arrived at Wanaka. It was dark so not a lot we could see or do, we popped into town for a Pizza then back home for an early night. We left Hokitika and headed for Glacier country. We were staying at Fox Glacier but stopped off at Franz Josef for a look on the way. Both towns are very small, we stopped off at one of the little cafes in Franz Josef for lunch then took a short walk to get some Glacier views. Moved on from Nelson and took the short drive to a town called Westport. Not an awful lot to do there which was just as well because as soon as we arrived we crashed out for the afternoon! Left Kaikoura and headed to sunny Nelson where we were meeting Bill and Leah for the weekend. Took a drive via Blenheim and Picton. Stopped off at Blenheim for lunch, tried to find a nice little cafe but not a lot there so ended up in Pizza Hut - DOH! Drove through Picton, a small harbour town, very pretty. Our car got us to Kaikoura - hurrah!! A good drive, plenty of windy roads and good views! Staying in a hostel called "The lazy shag," named after the local birds (the animal kind). Arrived on Monday night tired and hungry. Tried to go out for tea but EVERYTHING closes at around 8ish, ended up finding a little supermarket so Jim had a pie and Clare had soup!
