Hey everyone, I’ve arrived in Thailand! I arrived in Bangkok and was met in the airport by Tong the coordinator for my volunteer placement. I was expecting some old Thai guy in a rickety old car driving me along some dodgy road, but he was a trendy young dude, he was Thai but spoke good English. We waited for another volunteer, Matt, and then went to Tongs big 4x4. We drove through mental, bustling Bangkok and then arrived at a busy University district. Our guest house for the next few nights was tucked away down a pretty quiet street. I met the other volunteers and then we headed for a night on the town on the Koh San Road, the backpackers hang out. It was crazy, people on stilts, people on little food stalls selling bugs and animals to eat, loads of bars, shops and restaurants and neon signs everywhere! We spent all night there, in fact me, Anna and Matt didn’t get back to the guest house till 8 the next morning. I am quite ashamed to say that my first day in Thailand was spent in bed. My Mum will be disgusted!Next day we went out for a meal again, this time to a more traditional Thai restaurant, more volunteers had arrived by then; it was another good night out! The following day we had orientation about our projects and then we all got on a cool mini bus with air con, TV and comfy seats to head down South to Chumpon. So far so good......
