Bear and Boots Excellent Adventure
Friday 21st July
Long journey today to Dunedin. Was pretty wet and wndy but the sea looked amazing, some pretty huge waves. Stopped off just before sunset to see the penguins coming in from the sea to nest, it took them ages to waddle up the beach!
Got to Dunedin and went straight to the Speights Brewery tour yummy! Speights was actually started by a Yorkshire man James Speight!
At the end of the tour we got to taste the different beers, we got told by our driver that if we kept the guide talking we could just keep drinking as much as we want, think he cottened on tho!
Alysha and Sarah some Canadians we had met took us to a few bars in the evening, had a bit of a boogey and said goodbye to Paul and Jane on our bus boo hoo!
Our new driver taxi taught us all a few dance moves and John snogged a girl tee hee!! Yay!
Saturday 22nd July
John, Emily and Caroline waved us goodbye this morning as we left for Christchurch. Stopped of at a beach this morning to see some huge round Maori boulder things, and had bacon butties to cure our hangover!
Arrived a little late in Chistchurch and met Pat and Mark under the big sculpture thing in the main square.
Pat and Mark are friends of Mum and Dads (Tomlinson) from way back. We went for a drive to see some sights after saying goodbye to the last people on our bus Jen and Simon. We drove up the hill and around to see the views of the bays. We had a little walk and poor Mark hobbled along at the back, he was on crutches after just having a big knee op.
Staying at Pat and Marks was like luxury, they cooked us and amazing steak dinner and gave us lots of wine whilst we sat in the hot tub in the garden overlooking the city!!
Sunday 23rd July
Had a nice lye in in our big double beds. Pat and Mark cooked a big yummy fry up for breakie before droppng us off in town for an explore. Wandered around the art quarter, market and shops.
Bumped into Bobby and some other backpackers we got to know in the North Island and arranged to meet at their hostel bar later.
Monday 24th July
Got a lift to airport and said goodbye to Mark, Pat was at work (thanks again for having us!)
Flight was at 3.25pm to Melbourne. We arrived at 5.25pm oz time, we checked into a hostel in St.Kilda as it was close to the Neighbours night! We dumped our bags and went straight to the Elephant and Wheelbarrow. Libby, Ned and Toadfish came round signing autograohs. We then got to see the legend Carl Kennedy's band 'The Waiting Room' They opened the set with the killer, was the best thing ever!!
