Hi Chris, it's Sandra from Launceston, as in Sandra, Graham, Chris and Martin. Glad to hear you've started your big trip and already a month in.
Martin also found it very 'relaxing' when he did his world trip and hostels seem to me to be a place of junk food and videos, but he found snorkling great so try that, (not in the hostel)! Or maybe the tsunami wrecked the seabed so much it's no good?
Volunteering sounded an interesting and worthwhile option - try again later. WWOOF was a brilliant homestay organisation - check out their website to see if they have one wherever you go as it was interesting to stay with 'real people' and learn something of the culture. Can be a bit hippy (oh how 60s!), and organic but generally pretty good and helps the finances stretch.
Martin now planning three months in Europe - the travel-bug is still in him.
Have a great time!
