24th May 2008. After an early start we pulled in to the Bay of Islands and a little bit of sunshine. It was a nice little sea side town and first thing first was to book a couple more trips up! Dolphin watching and fishing were on the menu. Checked into our hostel, (surprise surprise again base!) and set off for our first trip. As Matt gets sick on a pedalo he decided to sit this one out as did Jack. Set off in slightly blustery conditions for a look at the Islands. Seemed a very nice place to live and with in no time we were packing dolphins left right and center. They were all cruising around the front of the boat and it was quality to see them in the wild especially as they jumped along at the back of the boat! Some good snaps and it was off to explore some more islands. Afterwards we went out to the pacific ocean to check out the hole in the rock. Sweet. Some more naughty scenery snaps and it was off to see some more dolphins. Spoilt. It was a great little trip and one of the last chances we had to see the beauty New Zealand has to offer. Incredible. Afterwards it was back to the pad for a BBQ. Pretty stuffed. All pretty tired the egg chasers watched a couple of games of rugby whilst James, Luke and Chris almost got into a game of monopoly. Close. However before you knew it 10 o clock came around and we were all tucked up asleep. Knackered.
Sunday and it was up at the crack of dawn. Having only had 12 and a half hours sleep we had somehow managed to miss the Ricky Hatton fight and also breakfast. Brunch it was. Off to a cheeky little cafe next door to line the stomach for the afternoon event. After a bit of mincing it was time to get dressed up like Rex Hunt. Waterproofs and all. Set off to the dock (minus Matt) for our fishing adventure with the skies looking a little grey. Jumped on bored with Captain Warren and set off to find some snapper. On our way out the heavens opened and with it thrashing down the boys questioned how good the day would be. However Warren soon found us a spot and as the rain eased a little we got our fish on. A slow start and the rain not giving out Luke broke the duck. After that the rain stopped and the flood gates opened. All day the boys were reeling in a range of fish. None were exactly monsters although we didn't care. We had a wicked time even if by the end of it we all stank of fish. It had been an awesome trip. Something we hadn't really done before! After 4 and half quality hours we set off for home. On the way we were treated to one of the most glorious sunsets any of us had ever seen accompanied by a dolphin jumping out the water at the back of the boat. Treated! After we got back there was only thing we wanted to eat. Fish. A quick shower and still smelling a tad fishing we headed off to a nearby restaurant to pop down a very tasty fish and chips. A couple of films before bed and we were done!
Another good 11 hours in the sack and we were up and checked out. Had until 3 to kill so we went in to town to stock up on those souvenirs. A good 18 laps of town later and we were done. Not the most efficient spree but a good one none the less. After exhausting the Bay of Islands we were off for our journey back to Auckland. It was our last ride on the big green Kiwi Bus. God we're going to miss that bad boy!

Fannie The quotes you pluled are a big reason why I love this book. I think they show how well Gilman is able to look back at this experience and treat her 21-year-old self with a sense of humor, without losing the sense of wonder she felt. It's a tricky voice to do, but I feel like she does it well..-= Kim (Sophisticated Dorkiness)b4s last blog .. =-.
