We're now in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam and up in the north of the country. It seems a nice city but its still raining the whole time and we're now craving the sunshine again (just like home eh?).
It took us 15 hrs to get here by sleeper bus which amazingly, did have beds and a toilet. It had bunk beds instead of chairs and was pretty comfy apart from the fact that these are obviously beds designed for Vietnamese people who are on average 3 feet tall and 2 inches wide.
Arrived in Hanoi yesterday and after some sleep decided to visit the Vietnamese Musuem of Ethinology (very cultural - wasn't great). Managed to negotiate our way there on public bus which we were impressed with but unfortunately had no idea where to get off the bus on the way back so ended up getting off a little early and having to walk across the city for about 1 1/2 hrs - never mind.
Trying to spend less money at the moment so decided to have street food for dinner rather than go to a restaurant. There are carts and stalls on every street corner selling all kinds of food and you can sit at (tiny) plastic stools and tables and eat. We wanted to choose our food by sight (seemed a little safer) but the guy running the place made us sit down and order from the menu. What turned up in my bowl was a big slab of something grey that looked vaguely meat based - not what I thought I had ordered. The rice was nice though. Unfortunaly just before this delicay arrived I had been saying to Chris "Well, its really good to try new foods, be adventorous and eat something when we don't know what it is" - I'm afraid didn't follow my own advice on this occasion.
