Thought I has replied to your weekend e-mail, but apparently I didn't answer the sum on the site and my message went nowhere.
Sounds like you are having a good time so far, but why so few people on your trip? A lot of history related to the area you were in at the weekend, there was a war film made based on the River Kwai.
Elephant treking sounds good although I aam not sure it would be my kind of thing.
The cat is still craving treats but I think she is comfort eating as well.
