Chloe's Travels
Wow, words cannot describe what an amazing time i have had over the past month on the simply stunning Fiji. We booked ourselves a bula pass and off we set for our first island on the yellow ferry to Bounty Island-location for the 1st series of celebrity love island and also we are claiming the advert for Bounty chcolate bar! Our first taste of small island life was so idyllic-lying in a hammock next to the lapping waves soon became my favourite pastime. Snorkelling around the island was great fun with so much to see-i spotted 41 electric blue starfish on one trip. Next stop in the mamamuca islands was party island Beachomber, randomly we realised there was a big ocean swimming competition going on whilst we were staying-a huge event with current world record holder and olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin competing and hundreds of crazy fun aussies. I for some reason decided it would be a good idea to eneter the 2.8k (equivalent to 112 lengths in a pool) race in a rather choppy sea with the imminent threat of sharks. Was lots of fun swimming around the islands but as i took my contact lenses out and my goggles fogged up, i couldn't see a bloody thing-luckily someone stuck with me and i managed to make it to the finish line in 49 mins which i was very pleased with! Nicola also competed in the 1k which was brilliant, especially as she hardly swam before we came on this trip. Although we were shattered we still found the energy to race in the final event in which we had to run on the beach with flippers, snorkel and mask into the sea, swim around a boat and back to the beach, onto the bar to down a beer-this was definately the most competitive and fun event of the day! Upwards we then sailed to the Yasawa islands and Octopus reost on Waya Island, stepping off the boat we realised we had arrived in Paradise such an amazing place with a pristine beach and fantastic everything!! I managed to complete my PADI open water diver certification whilst here and saw fabulosa underwater marine life on every dive. We also went to the local village & played with the cute kids, competed in crab racing and enjoyed movie nights under millions of stars with popcorn!! We were so upset to leave paradise but onwards we went to Manta Ray island, famous for....you guessed it huge manta rays. Next stop on Nacula island-Oarsman Bay resort, now i know i keep repeating myself but this seriously is what you picture when you imagine an idyllic beach and crystal clear waters, the snorkelling was like going on a dive as there was so much to see including a lionfish, huge angel fish & of course lots of nemo's. We were treated to our final bbq lunch on the deserted honeymoon island which was unfortuantely where we had to had to say goodbye to our girlies Zoe & Lauren who we have been travelling on and off with since we met on xmas day on Bondi Beach, it was very sad!!Our final island in Fiji was Robinson Crusoe which was a tiny back to basics resort-we even had to fill a bucket of water and wynch it up to have a shower & no electricity at night! We had great fun even though there was only about 12 of us there, luckily it was a good group combined with alcohol & bonfires. I got to do my 1st dive as a certified diver & saw 4 sharks which was v.cool. The highlight had to be maiking jewellery from coconuts that we had to go hunting for!
I really had the best month in Fiji, such an amazing place, met some great people and saw unforgetable things-think i will be back soon........
Have now arrived in Hawaii for a crazy 2 weeks before moving onto LA for my fianl 9 days of travelling before returning home-aaghhh!!!
