As we were approaching France we could see the white caps of the French alps we crossed bridges that had rushing water from the melting snow. As we crossed the boarder I could almost hear the sound of music! I know we were not in Austria but the scenery was similar.
Our first stop was in the town of Chamoix which was a town bounded by the alps and obviously a popular town for base jumpers and hikers in summer and obviously skiers in winter. We decided to take a cable car up the Mountain " Le Brevent", everyone had jackets and long pants and we were still in our summer gear but decided to suck it up and push on! The cable car trip seemed to go on forever and the closer we got to the top, temperature fell; we looked at each other and wondered if we did the right thing! Will we be turning back because of the cold once we reach the top? We finally arrived and the air was cool but in the sun was quite comfortable so we were safe. We stood in awe on how insignificant we were in comparison to the the mountains before us, the town below looked miniature with the distance between us. We had a great view of Mont Blanc which was directly opposite us this is the highest mountain in Europe. The view was awesome you could see glaciers and wind blown snow whisking of the mountain it was fabulous. We were not yet to the top there was a second cable car heading to the highest peak it was eerie to see the cables disappear into the clouds as if it was heading to heaven. On this trip up the mountain we shared the ride with some base jumpers we were heading to 25,000 feet and beyond the clouds I cannot believe that they were going to jump! There was a 360 degree view from the top it was beautiful and no words or photo could portray this experience. I was hoping to watch the base jumpers jump but they were waiting for better conditions and I knew that Carmel was getting cold so we decided to head down and make our way to Switzerland to visit a good old friend of ours.
