Ok, I know I said that the scenery was the best yesterday, but they really saved the absolute best for last. Today was our last day in Fiji and we spent it at a small island to the south of Viti Levu (the largest Fijian Island, and the one where Suva is). Dravuni is less than 1 square kilometre in area and is home to a village of about 200 people and that's about it. The ship was anchored off the coast, and pretty much the passengers got the whole island to ourselves for the day. The villagers had set up their stalls of souvenirs and sarongs and we were more or less welcome to wander around at our leisure (but be careful of stepping on people's vegetable gardens!)
Mel wandered off by herself and the three of us looked around the village before walking along one side of the island. The scrub and jungle was really pretty and we found pigs (kept in cages, not wild), heaps and heaps of skinks, a hermit crab and bananas growing on a tree amongst other things.
When we'd had enough, we looked at the stalls (our last chance to spend our Fiji dollars) and then found a spot on the beach to leave our stuff while we had a swim and snorkel. The water was really lovely and warm and it was very easy to spend lots of time in there. The snorkelling was good once I had got used to how it worked and had stopped hyperventilating while trying to use the mouthpiece. The water was so clear that I could see right down to the sea floor. There were lots of fish-white ones and black and white striped ones-and huge clam shells and a massive old anchor. I've not been snorkelling before and I really enjoyed it.
I got nice and pruney then hopped out of the water and did a bit of shade baking (like sun baking but in the shade) until I warmed up again. I had then had enough of the humidity again, as had Robyn and Adam, so we said goodbye to Fiji one last time and got back on the ship.
I have loved visiting Fiji. The people are truly beautiful, welcoming people and I have enjoyed my time immensely (except the humidity!).
