After spending 1nt in Auckland, I headed off to Pahia for 2nts in the Bay of Islands. From here I took a day trip to Cape Reinga at the very top of New Zealand..this is where the Pacific and Tasman Sea meet. On the day trip we drove along Ninety Mile Beach (however it's not 90miles?!), this was similar to Fraser Island in Oz and also visited the giant sand dunes where some of the group went sand boarding..I decided to give this a miss as it looked a bit too steep for me....plus my knee was still hurting.! The following day, me, Faye, Alan & Brian walked to Waitangi National Reserve, this is where the signing of the treaty was held between the Maori's and britain on the 6 Feb 1840. Apparently they hold events every year on that date, which would have been good to see, but I was just a few days too early! We were due to go back to Auckland early afternoon, however Alan & Brian were driving so we got a lift back with them, stopping off at Haruru falls on the way, which was handy as wasn't feeling the 5 hour walk along the track that it usually takes to get there from Pahia!
