Ok so here it is...our final blog entry!
We left you last on the way to the Perhentian Islands. I'm pretty sure that from the many pictures and the inexpressive album title you know whats coming...yes words such as amazing, beautiful and fantastic!
Long Beach where we stayed really is paradise! Our accommodation (Panorama Divers) was pretty dire but it was THE place to be and the food was great. None of that mattered anyway because stepping out onto the beach every morning put everything into perspective.
The plan on the island was to really relax and enjoy our last few weeks (it's hard work all this travelling...honestly) and we did exactly that. We found a great breakfast spot with an incredible view and terrific food cooked by a tempermental irish lady. Then we spent the whole day sunbathing and taking an occassional dip in the sea. When we eventually tired of that it was time for a 'Pepsi Pit-Stop' and then some exercise during a game of beach volleyball. After a quick shower it was time for the film of the day and some dinner before bed. That was pretty much the routine while we were there and it was superb!
We did however spend a day on a snorkelling trip which was a highlight of our whole trip. We cruised around the islands on a speedboat and jumped in the water at designated spots to take a look. Minutes into the trip we saw giant turtles and that was followed by small sharks and other incredible fish. We had lunch at a small fishing village and then spent an hour on a idyllic private beach.
Another highlight was the big night out we had before our new friend Laura left for Australia. It started off with some dinner and banana cake and custard, then after several drinks it turned into a dancing frenzy and resulted in Charlie and Laura ending up on the floor! We met a TV news reporter called Henry who donated a bottle of vodka to the cause which kindly helped us through the night.
We are now in Kuala Lumpur and so far we have had a great time. We are staying in a cool hotel with a hostel vibe. There is a great DVD library to choose from, free internet and free toast every morning!
We've given up on sight-seeing a little bit now but we still managed to get to the Petronas Towers. They are the greatest buildings I have ever seen (especially at night)! We had to queue up from 8am to get tickets to go up to a sky bridge on the 41st floor. It was quite cloudy but the view was still amazing.
Charlie also managed to convince me to go to an indoor theme park. It's so crazy and difficult to explain but it's like having Alton Towers in the Trafford Centre/Bluewater! The first ride we went on was fine...it sent us really high in the air and spun us around a bit...I could handle that, it was quite enjoyable actually. The second was a disaster and ruined us both for about an hour. It just spun around for almost no reason and we were both nearly sick. After a long rest we went in a haunted house (scared Charlie so much it was hilarious), drove some bumpers cars and finished on the BIG ONE. The big one was superb but once was enough for me (yes I know I'm a wimp!).
Other than that we have done a bit of shopping (I now know more about handbags than most women), been to the cinema and ate some great food. This one Teppenyaki place in particular is up there as one of our favourite places ever! We also had a terrible Krispy Kreme but made up for it with Dunkin Doughnuts and we tried out a local malaysian restaurant which looked dodgey but turned out to be really good.
Anyway the plan now is that we check out of here tomorrow and head to a really nice hotel (with a view of the towers) for our last proper night. Then it's off to another hotel right next to the airport before we fly home!
Neither of us can believe how fast it has gone. Africa seems like only yesterday! It's such a strange feeling because we both cannot wait to get home and see everyone, we've missed you all loads...but at the same time its been absolutely AMAZING (used that word a lot haven't we!?) and we're going to miss our adventures a lot.
I hope you've enjoyed keeping up-to-date with all our blogs and looking at our pictures. We've had the best time ever and thank you to everyone who helped make it possible!!!
Love Charlie and Spencer xxxx
