Just a quick blog to account for my skydiving experience in Taupo - will do a blog for the whole of the North Island when im in the South !
Woke up feeling very nervous as we waiting for the shuttle bus to pick us up at 11.30am. On the way there we had to sign a contract saying that we understood the dangers and risks of skydiving, and give contact details to our next of kins in case something bad happened - this is when it sunk in that i was actually going to throw myself out of an aeroplane !
Got all geared up in our jump suits and weighed so that we could be matched to a professional skydiver and then waited to get on the plane. We were going to be jumping with three girls who were staying in the same hostel with us, so that was better than being with complete randomers..i was the last to get in the plane with my instructor so i was sat right by the door
It took us about 25 minutes to reach 15 000 feet (about 3 miles from the ground)..when i realised i was going to be the first one in the group to jump, arghh
I was so nervous and really scared about going first, but excited all the same. My instructor knew I was really scared and made me feel quite safe talking me through what to do. As the door opened I looked down and took a deep breath. Cant explain what was going through my mind but you didnt really have time to be scared as the instructor counted to three and shuffled out of the plane.
I screamed so much when we first jumped out as we did a few turns in the air, then we freefalled for about 70 seconds. Wasnt scared as soon as the turning had stopped because it was just so amazing. You could see all over the North Island of New Zealand and i didnt really want the freefall to end but knew it would have to or id be dead haha
When we got to about 5000 feet the parachute went up and I couldnt believe the freefall was over so quickly. The instructor let me steer the parachute which was pretty cool as I could turn it which ever way I wanted to look all over the North Island.
When we landed I just wanted to get in another plane and do it all over again. Cant explain the feeling when you are freefalling for such a long time but it was awesome.
Thought it would be the one and only time I would skydive but after doing it im pretty sure il do another, and would recommend anyone to do it. Like ive said to everyone, it was the scariest but most amazing moment of my life and ive got no doubt that il do it again - as soon as I save up a lot of money ! But the question is..which one of you am i going to rope into doing it with me?!
