What was supposed to be a relatively benign walk of 16km somehow turned in to a torrid 30km walk. The walking notes said that it was dangerous in parts as it was unsuitable for bikes being 50cm wide in parts with drops of 40metres to the river below. They weren't kidding! So a 30km walk into Oloron Sainte Marie. On arrival I find that the whole town has no electricity due to a fire at a substation. Checked in to the hotel and had a walk to see if I could find a bar which might have some electricity or at least have beer in barrels, therefore no need for power - remember those days? Hot and muggy with the storms approaching which hopefully will mainly be overnight. Pau is a beautiful city and I had a good walk round this morning. A short day of walking today but a bit messy. I met up with my 2 German friends this morning who told me that all accommodation through Momy, Morsaal and even Pau is fully booked so they are thinking of heading south and crossing the Pyrenees further down.
