Wahoo!! We finally begun our holiday on 23rd April. We started by going to Bribie Island to stay with the Aussie Holmes (who are all well and send their love). We had a lovely time,Anty Linda took us looking for kangaroos, but unfortunately we didnt see any! They looked after us very well being our parents for a few days :) Inc taking us bowling( i lost both games, sam and uncle roy won) going on the boat, where we went Yabbie pumping, got a pet crab and i nearly ran over a turtle when it was my turn to drive! We also had a good wii sports session where uncle roy nearly killed himself! and lots of yummy home cooked proper dinners!
On the day we left Uncle roy took us looking for Kangaroos and we saw some!!! before having to catch the train into Brisbane and Greyhound into Noosa! Whilst in Noosa we went down onto hasting street which was nice then had a walk into the national park and sawe a Koala sat in the tree! So in 6 months we saw no wild life and in the past 2 days we saw all that!
The Next Day we went to AUSTRALIA ZOO! which we were both excited about,we got to feed the elephants and the kangaroos,we also held a koala, and watched the croc shows! we had a really nice day!
On the 28th we set off early for Rainbow beach, tho the journey was extended by 2 hours as the Greyhound bus broke down :( When we finally arrived we all had to have a briefing for Fraser island from a guy called Merv who was the most stereotypical outback Aussie (he loved giving 'peace, love and respect to everyone' except d*** who got a whack with the d*** stick!). We didn't have much to do that evening so we had a $5 dinner, packed our bags for Fraser and most important ordered our alcohol for the trip.
Next day we had an early start AGAIN for yet another briefing from the legend Merv. After 3 hours of packing the car we finally set off on our adventure on the largest sand island in the world :). We went to the gorgeous Lake Mckenzie for the majority of the day, swimming in the crystal clear blue water. That night we set up camp just off the beach just in time though we had to cook our dinner in the dark which was steak and potato salad cooked for all 8 by Sam. Everyone had a few, some a few too many but it was a good night. We had a really good group in our car and the next day we were up cooking scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast :). After breakfast we raced up the beach to Lake Wabbi. Unknown to us, there was over a 2km walk bare foot through the forest to get there!! And we wondered why everyone was laughing at us when they walked past us! When we finally arrived we found a nice but very green lake with huge black catfish in it. It was also FREEZING so we only spent around 10 mins there and then began our 45 minute walk back over what we could have sworn was a desert. Paul the group leprechaun (typical irish guy and short) then drove us to the end of Fraser to Indian Heads where we were told by Merv that we had to sit and wait at least an hour to spot any wildlife. But as soon as we arrived we saw a huge shark directly below us and then a large pod of dolphins 2 minutes later. Satisfied, we left and set up camp just off the beach. We had Asian chicken stir fry for dinner with rice followed by home made rice pudding (using left over rice) which was the best thing cooked all trip!
It was then onto the goon for everyone (boxed wine/wine in a sack) with loud and very out of tune singing for the rest of the evening, taking the party down on the beach :P.
It rained in the night but everyone was dry in their tents, except for two girls who managed to lose the waterproof cover off their tent, from our group of course so by the next morning everything was a bit damp and cloudy. We trooped on regardless and went to see the Maheno shipwreck and walked through Eli Creek (if you can call me giving cerys a piggyback walking, she didnt want to get wet)
All in all we had an amazing trip and we managed not to have any extra expenses on the car at the end which left everyone happy :D
prepare for more blogs!!
lots of love to everybody
