We arrive in Ao Nang after a tough 12 hour train journey and another 4 hours in a mini van... totally worth it! This is my kind of place, the beaches are absolutely idillic, and the town is gorgeous, friendly people and not too busy. On the first day we decide to try elephant trecking, a fantastic experience, I've always wanted to do this! The elephants are beautiful, with lovely markings on their trunks, very different to the african ones. Our elephant and guide take us for a walk through the forest, it's all very calm and peaceful, all you can hear are the birds and the running water from the stream. We also got to feed the elephants and have a refreshing swim in the river. That night was a group meal in a great open air restaurant right by the sea with delicious thai food. I get a birthday cake and they all sing happy birthday afterwards lol embaressing but nice.
The next day was awesome, went on a speed boat tour of the phi phi islands. It really is paradise. We visit lots of beautiful beaches, including the one where "the beach" was filmed. Pretty cool but it was absolutely packed with boats and tourists. We did lots of snorkelling which was fab, it was the first time I've not been scared doing it, yay! The fish and the coral were just incredible.
The rest of our time in Ao Nang pretty much consisted of eating, drinking, shopping and sunbathing, so you can imagine how much I didn't want to leave! (Caz)
