So I checked in and put my stuff in my room then got onto the Wifi to call Caz. After putting on some 'sun block' I walked into town to find the Belly Up venue! It was about a 10-15min walk away and by the time I got there, there were a handful of hardcore fans in the queue! I got chatting to 16 year old Cindy and 21 year old Chisa, who were amazed that I ha come all the way from England for the gig! I met a couple called Logan and Kay, who got married in Vegas in March and were childhood sweethearts.
Doors opened at 7:30 and I got my barcode-adorned ticket exchanged for a blue Belly Up paper wristband. I got a (free-poured) vodka and orange for $8 which apparently is quite good value since everything is imported up to the mountains. I got right to the front in the middle and stayed there the entire night, in the middle of my fellow hardcorers - Cindy and Chisa.
The 888 from Denver came on- turns out Logan went to 'High School' with them! I liked their acoustic vibes. A 10 year old girl was there at her first ever gig with her mum and she looked mesmerised! She looked even more mesmerised when I explained about 'that box' being called a cajon. Haha.
Andrew played from 9:30pm - 11pm. It's the BEST I've ever seen him perform - miles away from his awkward teenager counterpart that frontlined SoCo at Astoria in 2003. He played a mix of Jacks, SoCo and AMitW songs. He rose an inflatable rubber duck dingy, had us holding up a school-inspired parachute for Synesthesia and included a giant blow-up dancing sausage in the audience for his new song. To top it all off, I caught the set list that he threw! I got a free tattoo transfer from the Dear Jack reps and stood outside to meet him.
I exclaimed that I was from London and he was so happy and appreciative that I was there! We had a chat and he signed my set list and we had a photo together. Life = made. I told him he should come to London and he said he would come over but who knows - all I know is that the flight was so with it! He hugged me lots- I think he was a bit overwhelmed. When I was standing with Chisa a bit later he came over to say thanks again to me :)
Chisa agreed to giving me a ride back to Denver in the morning - woop! So we parted ways and I headed back to the hostel. It's a really safe place but I still sprinted back just in case.
I got in and had a girl room mate in Bed B - who was very asleep.
I slept very well from 12am - 6am!
