I have now been back in Auckland for a week and a bit after my trip to the South Island. I absolutely loved it down there!
As I mentioned before when I was in Queenstown I bungied! I had two helicopter flights and have managed to convince myself that I want to fly one one day - they are incredible machines!
After Queenstown we headed to The Doubtful Sound for an overnight cruise and I was absolutely blown away by the scenery. It is one of those places on earth that you know is so precious and unspoilt that it carries an almost sacred energy. It was incredible! Hence the hundreds of photos of it.
After that we headed into the Canterbury Plains and Otago to a little place called Naseby - a typical Otago town. The autumn colours were even more prevelant here and the brown plains smothered in mist added to the drama of the place. It was the first time in NZ that I saw big sky and flat land and I loved it. We cycled along the old Rail Trail for a bit so got to see the backwaters rather than just the touristy bits. Hyde was from another era!
Then back to Christchurch and goodbye to the tour group :( They were a great bunch - really young, so I did feel a bit like a nanna, but fun nonetheless. Andy met me in Christchurch for a weekend on the Banks Peninsula and Akaroa and I have to say that was another one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Just check out the pics! People don't exaggerate when they carry on about the beauty of New Zealand - it is profound!
Back in Auckland means less breath taking beauty and more fun with friends. It's great being back with Linda and meeting more of her mates. Aucklanders have a great life. I do get the impression though that winter puts a dampener on things - it's really rainy and cold now and I'm not seeing as many people out and about, but we've had a night or two with a good Pinot next to an open fire - what more can you ask for!
It's going to be VERY hard to say goodbye to Lindy-Lou on Sunday...sniff... but she's already planning her African Adventure for next year, so we'll keep that in mind. Also I've got mine and Charmaine's Californian Road Trip to look forward to as well as catching up with old friends in LA.
Forward forward!
