Okay folks, so as it turns out, I'm pretty crap at keeping this blog up to date. I think the main reason is because I'm too busy doing stuff! I didn't realise I needed to factor in blog and internet time into my travelling schedule. As it turns out, I've just missed my flight to Alice Springs this morning...groan...so I have a day with nothing planned - whoo-hoo.
SO what have I been doing since Perth, well, what I haven't I been doing!
From Perth I caught the Indian Pacific Railway to Adelaide. It took two nights and three days - YEP! Talk about long haul. And I was in the cheap seats - sitting up the whole way - so pretty hectic BUT I met such a great group of people. We spent most of our time in the dining car chatting and solving the worlds problems. There were brief stops in Kalgoorlie, Mt Cook and Port Augusta and I am very proud to say that I've travelled on the longest straight piece of rail in the world. It really brought to the fore how HUGE this continent is - I've never travelled for that length of time with as little change as that. I found it mesmerising.
I had one night in Adelaide where I hit China Town (yep it's got one!) with two new mates from the train before setting off on my Adventure Tour of the Outback.
On that score all I can say is WOW WOW WOW. Check out my photos. I have to say it was a life changing experience being out there and I would highly recommend it to everyone. Apart from the beauty of the desert (and it really is amazingly beautiful - you wouldn't expect it), it really brings home how huge the earth is and how truly insignificant we all are. I LOVED it. It was also masses of fun! We had such an incredible bunch of people on tour and the best tour guide EVER :)
It took two weeks in all to travel from Adelaide to Darwin and there are lots and lots of pictures for you to traul through if you want to see it all.
After that it was back to Adelaide from Darwin and then down to Melbourne to spend some time with Bianca and Michael and the kids and to see a bit of the area around Melbourne. It's a beautiful city and I could definitely see myself living there if I can ever shake my African addiction.
And then on to Sydney for some quality time with Chris and Sarah (and their bump :)) Chris, in his true trainspotting style treated me to a day of mini trains and I actually really loved it. I bet that's a side of Sydney life not many tourists get to see! Take a look at the pics - LOADS of fun!
So yes, next stop is Alice Springs to meet up with my Outback Man again and retrace some of my steps around the Rock and Kings Canyon. All good.
I'll try not leave it this long until the next entry again. Not sure how many of you are actually reading this though :)
