Sorry this has taken so long to write but we wrote a whole blog entry which took us 45 minutes and then the computer broke down.....
Our transport to Buenos Aires was even more luxurious than before, we had decided to really push the boat out and pay an extra 3 pounds to have SUPER CAMA. This time we had our own little section on the bus and our seats were almost completely flat when we reclined them. First of all we were brought coffee and biscuits, followed by more coffee and biscuits followed by flat Sprite. At about 11pm we eventually got our dinner which shut Laura up, thank god. We were pretty happy with our Spanish Tortilla and ham and salad roll when out of the blue we received a hot foil dish filled with Smash and a roly poly meat type thing..... It was way better than plane food though. However, the bus journey got more exciting, not only did we have English films we were also drug searched twice. The second time the labrador found something he thought was rather interesting which caused security to have a fifteen minute root through someone´s bag (unfruitful though)!
We arrived in Buenos Aires rather early and to a rather unpleasant drop in temperature. We had definitely packed for warmer weather! After dumping our bags and changing our attire we went on a walking tour of La Boca. Our "walking tour" was more of a "sit and pay for your own lunch whilst watching tango" tour but it did give us free entry into the Boca stadium where we saw the golden seat that Maradona sits in to watch every Boca Juniors game. Having been ditched by our guide who had an exam we headed back to the hostel and literally bumped into three people we had gone to uni with. Of all the streets, in all the cities, in the WORLD....
After checking in we went downstairs to our free tango lesson courtesy of the hostel. Women largely outnumbered men and thus Laura announced that Carrie would have to be the man. Thankfully, just as we were about to start our knights in shining flip flops turned up.
Wednesday comprised of us feeling sorry for ourselves and wanting a sofa and a tv so at the last minute we jumped on the bandwagon to the Boca Junior game which was the equivalent of the English Champion´s League Semi Final. It turns out we were hugely done for our tickets but we got back safe and the atmosphere was well worth it. We had continual music for 2 hours, yellow flares, confetti, the whole stadium jumping; not to mention the crazy Argentinian´s singing in Carrie´s ear for the full 90 minutes. It was, however, freezing!
Shockingly enough, we ended up at the zoo the following day with one of the people from uni and a random, very camp (but not gay!!) Medic from Oxford that he had picked up along the way. Apart from the undesirable activites of the many goats that we saw, the animals were in pretty good condition and there were hundreds of them. We even fed a hippo! The evening was spent with two Dutch girls we met at Iguazu and then we headed to Club Lost. After the first hour of non-stop breakdancing the club was suddenly full and before we knew it, it was 6am! Time for bed! Our cab ride home was almost as eventful as the evening, we landed ourselves with two drunken English boys, one of whom passed out in Laura´s lap and consequently got us kicked out. When crossing the twelve lane highway back to the hostel he proceeded to group us for a picture; "Because I have a timer on my camera!". We were not amused.
The next major event was the immense steak we ate. We had heard rumours about Argentinian steak being the best but nothing prepared us for La Cabrera. We had been warned to share a steak and when the small cow was put in front of us we were very glad that we had! Between the amazing side dishes and the Chupa Chup lolly tree, it was a damn good meal!
We spent the next few days doing various cultural things in a rather half hearted manner as we didn´t often get to bed before 6am. However, we have seen Eva Peron´s tomb, the Evita museum and a proper tango show. By the end of Week 1 we were starting to feel a bit ill and our three hour (Spanish!) Monopoly stint on our last night was much needed.
