Day 37 Lauterbrunnen to St Goar
Another bus day of the group! We left the valley of Lauterbrunnen and Switzerland to make our way back into Germany. It was one of the Melissa's birthdays, so her fiancee planned a scavenger hunt on the coach for her, as well as a bunch of altered versions of party games for us all to participate in...so nice of Luc, and it passed the time quicker than it could have gone! Our second pit stop was in the university town of Hiedleberg; it is a cute little place near the Neckar river in the Rhine valley, with an ancient castle overlooking the cobbled streets and restaurants and shops lining them. We spend nearly all our time in a Christmas store, which had really neat decorations and other trinkets. Then we continued on to St. Goar, home of the world's largest cuckoo clock and beer stein, apparently, the clock was like 3 metres talls and outside a store that sold many smaller clocks, teddy bears and souviners. The beer stein was in a store that only sold beer steins, so the selection of the steins was varied and plentiful! Our hotel was directly above the stein shop, and had good food as well. We had a bit of time in the hotel before wine tasting, which was below ground in a cellar with many barrels and lit by candles. We sampled 5 wines, all white, as these are the types of grapes that the region grows. We also got to keep the large shot glass that we used to sample the wines. after wine, we had free time to sleep and relax in preparation for Amsterdam, which we head for tomorrow.
