Carly's Adventures
Well, we made it on our crazy "vacation," and are currently in Delhi. We saw the Taj Mahal this morning at sunrise and I think our pictures are cooler than the one on this website! I just have to find a way to load them online. =p I have other pictures, too, from Pen and elsewhere, but it's a challenge to load anything. Anyway, here are some notes from our journeys:
Pizza Hut (listed first because it is my number one favorite thing we discovered in Agra): So among all the tourism and smog and harrassment from everyone in Agra trying to sell us things, we found solace in Pizza Hut. It's practically a gourmet restaurant there! There are real servers and menus and cute little plates with pizza toppings around the edge. =] And the pizza is ACTUAL pizza. We've come to find out that even "American" foods in India are rarely American. Nothing tastes quite the same and there always seem to be random ingredients missing. But the double cheese pizza at Pizza Hut in Agra was perfect. =] Thank goodness for pizza.
Taj Mahal - "a teardrop on the face of eternity": Wow. We almost didn't want to pay the 750 Rs to go in (only 10 Rs for Indians =/), but when we got a view of the back (the ones I have managed to load online so far), we decided we needed to see the real thing. So, we got up at 5:45 this morning to check out the Taj in the sunrise and it was beautiful. It's HUGE and so many small details. It was built by an emperor as a memorial for his wife who died in child birth...with their 14th kid. Guess he kind of owed her, but I think that's an acceptable gesture of love and am currently willing to go on a date with anyone who whips me up a Taj. =p
Trains: I don't even know what to say about this. Sometimes when you're on a train from Mumbai to Agra and your ticket says you're a man and you're really NOT and then the ticket guy wants to boot you off the train for not being a man like your ticket says, and you get sick to your stomach right before you board for a good round of feeling pretty sick for 24 hours with no escape, and then you think it's a 16-18 hour ride and it turns out to be 23 hours, and you figure someone might be able to let you know how far away Agra is so you can get off at the right stop but turns out no one understands a word you're saying, and the lady across the aisle thinks your situation is really funny and keeps laughing at you...well sometimes you just don't want to see a train again for a while.
Animals: So, the list of animals that are necessary to see while in India was: monkeys, elephants, tigers, and camels. And I have seen them ALL. PLUS a couple lions and some huge bugs. =]
Hmmm...I'm not sure what else to write. I have all these ideas while I'm walking around good ol' India, but then I forget every time I make it to the internet. If anyone has any questions, they can ask and I will write answers down here too. =]
*Note About Sending Things to India: If anyone is planning to send anything to me after this point, I would advise against sending after the middle of next week or so (Nov. 14th-ish). Mail's taking quite a while to get here, so I wouldn't want to miss it when I return home. Thanks for thinking of me though and all the notes and emails! Have a lovely day!
