G'day everyone,
Well in true aussie style, we are back again to share the fun and antics of Australia Day . For those of you that don't know, Australia Day is massive out here, it is celebrated on 26th January each year and is the offical national day of Australia. It commemorates the first European stettlement on the contient of Australia (yes I did have to google this to find out the history!)
Anyway, it basically means we get a long weekend off work and there are loads of events put on in the city to celebrate it.Saturday was offically Australia Day so we decided to head down to Darling Harbour (which is an area of the city that has a big park area and a harbour) during the afternoon. I along with the lads, Chris, Neal and Shane met Carly, Jo, Rob and the kids down there. There was a stage with live bands playing and some entertainment for children. We pitched up in the beer tent and chilled out enjoying the sunshine, the live music and of course a few cheeky beverages. Later in the evening we went for some dinner in one of the pubs and then watched the fireworks across the harbour. I have to say that Sydney does know how to put on a good show. The fireworks went off from all the boats and lasted a good 10 minutes or so, they were pretty spectacular. After this Shaz and I headed down to The Rocks, near the harbour bridge and opera house and met up with the lads again. They were sitting on a grass area drinking wine, goon and vodka red bull playing drinking games, we joined in and caught up with them pretty quickly. We tried to go into a few bars and ended up in The Oldest Pub in Sydney. It was a good but very drunken night (woke up in bed the next morning fully clothed - oops! - really don't know where I get it from!!!)
So nursing my hangover the next day, I headed down to Bondi Beach with Chris, Shane and Dino as in there words, it was 'Super Sunday' basically meaning that as we had no work on Monday so had to spend all day drinking! I have to say I struggled big time at first to drink especially trying to keep up with them, but in the end I managed pretty well. We went to an Irish bar (two of them are Irish) and well, you know how they love a drink! In the evening, there was a live band playing and they were pretty good, playing loads of Irish songs which everyone dancing around to.
On the Monday evening, we went to this typinyaki restaurant (sorry not sure my spelling is quite right!). It's a japanese restaurant where they cook the food on a hotplate infront of you. The chef also makes you catch eggs in a bowl and throws rice at you which you have to catch. It's really good fun and something a bit different. A big thank you to Carly for treating everyone!Well that's about it for now. It's now Carly's last week here in Sydney so she'll be back soon to share all the leaving do's we have planned.
Love
