So been in Cairns for 4days now. To be honest i havn't really done much in the days here. Its quite quiet here at the moment because its wet season (the weather has been pretty good tho....32 and no rain yesterday) and theres not alot to do in Cairns itself...it all involves day trips which i have no money for at the moment. But i've used my time here to plan the first 3weeks fo my east coast trip so i have loads to look forward to now! The hostle i'm staying in is awesome fro $15-$18 a night.....it ha a pool and a really cool outside sitting area with benches. Best thing about the rooms is AIR CON!!! YESSSSS!!! was much needed in my hangover of fizzy goon this morning
Cairns is really laid-back, clean and pretty. The esplanade is lined with palm trees and theres loads of plants everywhere! Also seen lots of bats, at around 7pm they all come out flood the sky, you just see them swarming around, really cool! The waterfront is a really nice walk or run and has loads of grass areas and a giant free outdoor pool thats gets really busy but is perfect to cool down. You can't go in the sea at Cairns waterfront tho because its inhabited by Crocs and jellies. Loads of wildlife here, saw a massive group of Pelicans up close at the waterfront yesterday, i was thinking how good a photo it would be to see an alligator coming out of the water to catch a pelican.
Ive had 2 really good nights out at The Woolshed which is where we get out free meals. Its a backpacker bar with loads fo drinks offers on. On Monday i went out with Ayesha and Jana my roommates and we spent the night dancing on tables for what felt like hours, was good fun! Last night was even better, I met Josie from Falmouth the night before so we went out. Also emt up with Mark from the hostle and 2 Dutch guys. I think its funny how theres always a couple of dutch guys floating around for a night out. I upgraded my meal for $7 and got a huge portion of food including fresh veg!! that was mcuh needed after cereal and spagetti for 3nights.
It was ladies night at the Woolshed which meant we got free "champagne" from 10-11 served to us by 2 topless Aussie Men. We managed to get 5 glasses in which was impressive seeing how bad it tasted. We did some dancing on tables and watched the wet jock competition which involved 4 guys stripping down to their underwear and getting soaked witha waterhose. Pretty funny. After a stop off at McDonalds (possibly the cheapest place to eat in Austalia- i am ashamed at how much ive been in here for 50cent icecreams) Josie and I headed back but not before running through the water sprinkles that were watering the vegetation, we got soaked. Then we climed on some big metal guns at the waterfront and Josie smashed her nailvarnish and wiped it all over the place...nightmare! Good times though.
Leavign Cairns tomorrow and heading to Mission Beach for my skydive!
