The trip back was long and difficult because of being sick. First I had to figure out which buses to take to get to the North Airport in Tenerife. My limited Spanish helped me out there. First I took a bus to Los Christianos. Then I had to wait for the express bus that went to the North Airport.
I got there about noon and had to wait until 1900 before my flight left for Madrid.
By the time I got to Madrid it was 2300 and my flight wasn't for 11 hours! So I spent the entire night trying to sleep on hard, cold floors. My cough was getting worse and I was afraid I was getting pneumonia.
Finally, it was time for my flight to the USA.
I put on a warm sweatshirt and used two blankets to keep me warm but it was very hard to sleep. Worse yet, the flight was late getting out of Madrid and I missed my connecting flight in Chicago to Cedar Rapids. Fortunately, there was another flight going to Cedar Rapids that night.
So I finally arrived in Cedar Rapids at 2200 Sunday Night. My wife was really worried at how sick I was and made an appointment to see the Doctor on Monday. I'm still waiting for the results of a chest x-ray. I have been mostly sleeping.
I remained sick for 2 weeks. The doctor thinks it was the flu.
