So you can understand why the Aborigines would prefer people didn’t climb. Aboriginal ancestors walked the path that tourists do today, and many of the caves around the rock hold deep meaning for them and contain ancient rock paintings so while climbing the rock is not illegal, it is still considered disrespectful to the Aboriginal culture. We chose to respect that and didn't climb but I was surprised how many still did.
